No. Every photo is analysed on your device. There is no server, no account and no analytics. The only network traffic the app makes is to check your subscription status, and that carries no photo data.

To find duplicates it has to compare every photo against every other one. With limited access it can only see the photos you picked, so it can only find duplicates among those — the home screen tells you when it's working with limited access.

The same thing that happens when you delete in the Photos app: iOS shows its own confirmation, and the items move to Recently Deleted, where they stay for 30 days. Nothing is removed permanently, and nothing is deleted without you confirming.

It saves the still picture back to your library on its own, then deletes the original Live Photo. You keep the photo and free the video half, which is usually about half the file. The converted copy keeps the original date, location and favourite status.

If iCloud Photos is on with Optimise iPhone Storage, your device keeps smaller versions while the full originals live in iCloud. Deleting frees the small version here and the full original there — so the two figures are usually very different. Both are shown so you know which problem you're solving.

Deleted items sit in Recently Deleted for 30 days before the space is actually returned. You can empty that album in the Photos app if you need the space immediately. Sizes also come from what iOS reports, which can be missing for photos that only exist in iCloud — so the figure is a floor, not a ceiling.

It analyses every photo you own, so a very large library takes a few minutes the first time. Progress and a time estimate are shown throughout. After that the result is remembered, so reopening the app is instant — it only rescans when your library has actually changed.

Duplicates and Similar shots are free, and you can remove up to 100 items without paying. PhotoMate Pro removes that limit and unlocks the Live Photos, Screenshots and Large Videos categories.

Open the button in the top-left of the home screen and tap Restore. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, so signing in with the same account is all that's needed.

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us: open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling at least 24 hours before the renewal date stops the next charge, and Pro stays active until the period ends.
